IN CROCIERA CON SILVIA
Erano anni che pensavamo ad una crociera, ma i mille problemi quotidiani ci avevano sempre trattenuto…a terra.
...A farci decidere, al solito è stata la sorella maggiore di Silvia che ha scovato una crociera con partenza a Savona, a
due passi da casa. Su una grande nave totalmente percorribile in carrozzina. …Ad un prezzo eccezionalmente “accessibile”.
A questo punto...siamo salpati, driblando bronchiti varie e difficoltà dell’ultimo minuto.
...La nave (COSTA ROMANTICA) è di dimensioni ragguardevole, una dozzina d’anni di età, una decina di ponti, otto ampi ascensori, tutta percorribile in carrozzina tranne un piccolissimo ponte all’estrema poppa.
Naturalmente a bordo c’è di tutto, compreso infermeria con medico e piccola farmacia…
…Un dato importantissimo: le porte delle cabine “normali” sono abbastanza ampie da consentire il passaggio della carrozzina.
Considerazioni finali: complessivamente siamo contenti – molto contenti del viaggio che persino Silvia, notoriamente di gusti difficili, ha apprezzato e lo consigliamo a tutte le “famiglie con disabilità” che meditano di farne uno del genere…

Anche diverse famiglie della ns. associazione sono convinte che questa sia un’esperienza da fare, sia con i ragazzi, sia senza di Loro.
Ne sono ancor più convinte dopo essere entrate in contatto ed in relazione con una persona – ANN DE SIMONI -
che pensa di coniugare l’organizzazione della crociera per le famiglie dell’associazione con la raccolta fondi a favore
della stessa.
Desideriamo portare a conoscenza delle Onlus del ns. Territorio l’impegno lavorativo che questa persona intende esercitare.

ANN vive a Genova da oltre 32 anni, con  il marito e le due figlie,  ha iniziato il suo lavoro filantropico nel 1986,
quando ha cominciato a lavorare per vari progetti benefici per diverse scuole e chiese della città.
Ha lavorato con organizzazioni di beneficenza a livello internazionale e la sua partecipazione nei consigli organizzativi le ha fruttato molte esperienze positive.
E’stata seconda Vice-Presidente 2001-2003 per FAWCO (Federation of American Women’s Club Overseas), attualmente è membro di “The FAWCO Foundation Board of Directors” come Individual Giving Advisor.
Per FAWCO Foundation ha organizzato la fortunata crociera in favore di Paul Newman Association of “Hole in The Wall Camps”.
E’ conosciuta per le Sue tante idee, per la raccolta di fondi e per la capacità di lavorare in team.
Il Suo talento più grande risiede nell’organizzazione e nella comunicazione di nuovi progetti, eventi e vacanze che diffondono il vero spirito di beneficenza.

Il Suo motto è: “Donare attraverso la beneficenza  può regalare doppia felicità: mentre Vi godete una vacanza meravigliosa saprete rendere felici anche altri”

A few excerpts from the book MAI SOLI !   by Giorgio Genta   
Giorgio Genta, Silvia’s father and President of Association ABC Liguria e Association DopoDomani Onlus, writes of his daughter, a disabled, wheelchair-bound daughter.

 Silvia and her cruise experience:
We had been thinking about taking Silvia on a cruise for years, but the problems of everyday life seemed to always hold
us back. It was Silvia’s older sister who made the decision for us by finding a cruise with departure from Savona, Italy,
just around the corner from our hometown on a huge and beautiful ship that is totally wheelchair accessible and, none the less, at a very “affordable price”.

At this point we decided to set sail on the high seas, even with last minute and unexpected complications of bronchitis.
Our ship, COSTA ROMANTICA was of considerable size, about ten years old, hosting another ten decks, eight huge elevators, all wheelchair accessible, along with a delightful small deck at the stern of the ship. Naturally, we found everything we needed on board including a nurse and a small pharmacy. One of the most important factors is that the doors of every cabin are wide enough, permitting easy passage for wheelchairs. Our after thoughts… in general, we were quite happy and very satisfied with our vacation choice. Even Silvia, who is sometimes very hard to please, was very enthusiastic with the cruise. We highly recommend this choice of vacation for those “families with disabled members.”

Several families from our association are convinced that this is an experience that shouldn’t be missed, with our children, and without our children. I am even doubly convinced after meeting and becoming acquainted with a special person,
ANN DE SIMONI. She has thought of uniting a cruise for the families of our organization and fundraising at the same time! It is our wish to make this information known to all charitable organizations in the region where Ann plans to work.

Ann has been living in Genoa, Italy with her husband and two daughters for the past 32 years. Her philanthropic work began in 1986, and she has been an active member in the community ever since working with various church and school groups. She has worked with charitable organizations on an international level and her participation on the board of administration has served her very well. She was 2^nd Vice-President, 2001-2003, of F.A.W.C.O.( The Federation of American Women’s Club Overseas) and is presently a member of the F.A.W.C.O. Foundation Board of Directors in
the position of Individual Giving Advisor. While serving the FAWCO Foundation she is remembered for the successful cruise, which helped raise funds for the Paul Newman “Association of Hole in the Wall Camps.”  She has become well known for her fundraising ideas, ability to create and work with the team spirit, but, most of all, her talent lies in the organization, communication and motivation in bringing projects to life, events and vacations that spread her own enthusiasm and the true spirit of charity.

Her motto has become “Giving through charity can be twice the happiness, by enjoying a wonderful vacation you give to yourself and make others happy too”.
